The ratchet effect of local government

There was an “all boards” meeting to talk about the “master plan” in response to the “scathing report.” If my performance at work generated a scathing report, I would be looking for a new job.

In government, it doesn’t work that way. If the report were positive, they would pat themselves on the back and use it as an excuse to grow government “services.” When it’s bad, it means they need more money and more power to improve their “services.” They need $50k just to update the “master plan.” The hapless taxpayer will lose again.

When has anyone ever heard the following: "This government 'service' is doing a bad job. Let's cut its budget and fire those involved."
