I am fond of walking, and today was a perfect day for a long walk through town. I noticed several things: a lot more dog shit lying around, a lot more areas of broken glass on the sidewalk, a small gang of young teenage boys taking up the entire road (blocking traffic) and swearing more than not, and the proliferation of signs forbidding or mandating mere citizens to do thus and so (something I've commented on before). Is this town deteriorating in front of our eyes?
What took the cake was the sign at the Main St. Prison School which said "Thank you Exeter voters." I guess they don't teach language arts any more--I wonder how many of the inmates know what direct address even is.
In any case, I also wonder about the tiny fraction of Exeter voters who support allowing MSS to hemorrhage money. It would be very interesting to break down the votes according to who is on the government dole and who is not. If you subtract police, town bureaucrats Dept. of Public X, all the school administrators and teachers, and anyone else who expropriates money from the taxpayer to put food on their table, who is actually voting?
