A letter to the editor tosses a small sally to the Rye police, who issued tickets for a number of cars that stopped to see the beached whale on Foss Beach. The writer should note that this itself is a learning lesson: the police do not protect and serve the people. They protect and serve the bureaucracy, and their primary reason for issuing tickets is not for safety, but for mulcting more out of us hapless taxpayers.
Lesson learned, I hope.
