Exeter government: bleeding us dry

As usual, the Exeter government needs more money this year. More than half a million dollars more than last year. Why?

Well, why not? After all, there is an unlimited supply of money from the hapless taxpayer. Unlike a business, where prices are determined by consumer demand, bureaucratic budgets have no such cap. Once you realize that (a) you can always spend more money, and (b) you can always increase the amount of money you steal...er, tax..., then you continually expand your budget. Bureaucratic budgets never decrease either, even if there is a "surplus." This is a wonderful ratchet effect hat continually expands governments' tentacles on our society.

Oh well, as long as the area near a certain storefront gets beautified, everyone is better off.

Big spending up in Concord

Why is a $65 million "surplus" applauded? What it means is that $65 million more in taxes was collected than "should" have ("should," according to the government budget). Will the hapless taxpayer see any of it returned to them? I wish I could keep my money to accumulate my own rainy day fund. Unfortunately, I have to spend it to keep the bureaucracy alive.

Surprise, surprise

The Exeter government needs to spend more money.

Dan Chartrand doesn't think it's enough a hike in how the government spends the money it expropriates from us. Perhaps he should go do some fundraising.

Dan Winham wants a parking lot. Maybe "we" can turn the town offices into one. That'll be a far better use of them to have a central location for paying our ransoms.
