Ha ha ha. Another article that tries to claim that police and firefighters somehow deserve the tax money they receive. He is absolutely correct when he says that the "final pay...is not a gift." It is expropriated money, forced from the mulcted taxpayer to the tax consuming class. Even ignoring the rampant corruption (e.g., double dipping) for which bureaucrat pensions are notorious, if this really was earned income, the police would be getting paid by voluntary consumers. I wonder if the writer is connected to a police department or PBA somewhere. A google search indicates so.
It's good to see all these opinions that try to justify tax-funded pay. It shows that they need to fight a growing frustration with the over-bloated, increasingly militarized, and usually power hungry police departments all over the country.
