Having
seen the ad for the planning board meeting for the Rose House Farm by the
spring, I almost went. What’s the underlying problem? As usual, it comes down
to property ownership. Who owns the farm? Who owns the spring? Who owns the
roads? Someone commented on potential air contamination resulting from the project.
Well, who owns the air space? Nobody and everybody.
I
suspected that something was brewing for a long time, most recently when the
timber harvest in Oaklands started, and even before when the article about the
spring came out in the summer. The Exeter government of course wants to “build
up” the town to “increase the tax base,” i.e., to expropriate more money. I
also suspect that they would love to shut down the spring because (“think of
the children!”) it isn’t regulated by the town, and those who spend time
acquiring water from it do not pay for tap water.
Exeter
is an increasingly expensive place to live, and it seems like the town government has no
problem mulcting every last penny from us. Please, just leave us alone.
